HOW LOCKDOWN CHANGED MY DREAM.... As I am a fashion designing student , my dream during first week of lockdown period was full of becoming a successful entrepreneur. Always our teacher says " Each designer is unique and thus the clothes that each create will be unique". Each day started with the strong desire to become a fashion designer. I dreamt of a world where people wear clothes designed by me. I am confident in myself ...i have a strong passion...All the points i learned circled around me....A fashion designer should understood colours , colour combinations, they should have a sense of balance and proportion and appreciation for beauty, a strong sense of esthetics...they should learn about types of clothes cultural impacts on dresses etc. But as the lockdown days goes on the dress and uniforms of doctors health workers, nurses etc haunted my dream. I just searched for the precautions they take by wearing those equipments, the materials by which they are made of etc PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) PPE includes masks, aprons, goggles caps, visors, gloves, theatre footwears and gowns which keep nurses and doctors safe when they are treating patients like COVID-19. There are four types of PPE. 1. Respiratory protection 2. Eye protection 3. Hear protection 4. hand protection There are three types of facemasks for COVID-19 prevention 1) Homemade cloth face mask . Homemade cloth face mask is made of clothes and it is used by public in an area of significant community transmission such as grocery stores and medical shops. It should be washed after every use. It may prevent transmitting the virus through speaking, coughing or sneezing. 2) Surgical mask They are disposable, loose fitting face masks that cover your mouth and chin. It protects the wearer from sprays, splashes and large droplets. It can vary in design , but the mask isoften flat and rectangular in shape with pleats or folds. Elastic bands or long straight ties help hold the surgical mask tightly. 3) N95 respirator N95 filter out airborne particles and tiny droplets that may have been coughed up by patients. PAPR A PAPR- powered air purifying respirator is basically an automatic mask that has a filter and a motor on it, ensuring the air you are breathing is clean . They wear a gown that has a plastic liner on it, to prevent contamination of their clothes. The gowns are impermeable that reaches from the neck to at least mid thigh. There will be hood that covers the neck. For hand protection they wear gloves which are of different types. Latex gloves, Vinyl gloves and Nitrile gloves. Nitrile gloves are preferred because it is less stretching and even less permeable than standard latex gloves. Theatre footwear is fluid resistant to avoid contact with germs or viruses. Going through all these details I was amazed . How each and everything is designed inspired me to think of designing with much more passion and seriousness. My perspective of Fashion designing changed to designing what society needs.
