PLASTIC : A BOON OR BANE       Plastic is a useful substance to man.It is used to make bottles,toys,tiffin boxes etc.But the chemicals used to prepare plastic are harmful to all the living beings.plastic causes many problems such as soil pollution,air pollution,water pollution etc.Now the greatest threat that our earth faces is plastic pollution and disposal of plastic wastes. Today wherever we look we can see plastic.As plastic is a non-degradable substanceit blocks the flow of water and air between the soil particles and destroys the fertility of the soil.The chemicals present in plastic causes soil pollution.Similarly when plastic is dumped into water it becomes a big threat to aquatic plants and animals.The chemicals in plastic destroy the phytoplanktons in the water that contribute a large amount of oxygen to our atmosphere.The consumption of plastic leads to the death of a large number of aquatic animals.This destroys the balance of our eco system.Besides that the burning of plastic leads to the releasing of a large amount of noxious gases that causes cancer and other health problems to human beings.It also pollutes the air and causes global warming leading to climatic crisis.The storage of food in plastic tiffin boxes makes the food poisonous.In short plastic causes a lot of harm to our environment. In this situation we should adopt certain steps for a safer future.Some of them are • Use paper bags instead of plastic carry bags. • Practise the 4 R’s such as reduce,reuse,recycle and refuse of plastic. • Never dump plasic into soil or into water bodies.
