Coronaviruses are a group of related viruses that causes diseases in mammals and birds. In humans, coronaviruses cause respiratory tract infections that can range from mild to lethal. Mild illness include some cases of common cold (which has other possible causes, predominantly rhinoviruses) while more lethal varieties can cause SAARS, MERS and COVID-19.Symptoms in other species vary: in chicken they cause upper respiratory tract infections while in cows they cause diarrhoea. There are yet to discover vaccines or antiviral drugs to treat human coronavirus infections.
