IMMUNITY .... In biology, immunity is the balanced state of unicellular organisms having adequate biological defenses to fight infection, disease or other unwanted biological invasion,while having adequate tolerance to avoid allergy and auto immune diseases. Immunity means exemption or resistance. If you're protected against something ,you have immunity to it...in the late 14th century ,the noun immunity, which means "exempt from service or obligation",developed from the Latin immunitatem,which has nearly identical meaning. Immunity is the capability of multicellular organisms to resist harmful microorganisms from entering it.Immunity involves both specific and nonspecific components.The nonspecific components act as barriers or eliminators of a wide range of pathogens irrespective of their antigenic make-up. Other components of the immune system adapt themselves to each new disease encountered and can generate pathogen specific immunity. The immune system protects the body against disease or other potentially damaging foreign bodies. When functioning properly, the immune system identifies and attacks a variety of threats,including viruses, bacteria and parasites, while distinguishing them from the body's own healthy tissue. There are two types of immunity- Passive and active. Passive immunity occurs when antibodies are passed from one person to another, as through transfusion for example. The active immunity involves two types of white blood cells - T cells and B - cells. Active immunity occurs when our own immune system is responsible for protecting us from a pathogen. There are different ways to strengthen our immune system . Don't smoke. Eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables. Exercise regularly. Maintain a healthy weight. If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation. Get adequate sleep.
