The importance of trees

Trees plays a key role in maintaining life on earth. Man and all other living organisms depend on trees from time immemorial. Living organisms stay indebted to trees for oxygen they release during day time. Oxygen enables us of our very existence on the planet. Trees help us in many ways such as causing rainfall, maintaining topsoil fertility, stop floods, prevent soil erosion, provide food and fodder for the animals. There are various edible fruits that trees give. Man eats corns and various plants and leaves. Man makes house and furniture out of timber provided by trees. We should preserve our nature to sustain our trees. Nature not only means our surrounding environment but also forest.

Our forests are rich in medicinal plants and herbs. Several medicines are prepared from them. Some other trees like sandal wood, decoder, ashwagandha, belladonna, etc... Are of great values.

We all have heard of "Amrita devi bishnoi wilde life protection award". There is a wonderful story behind this award. People's participation have a long history in India. In 1731, the king of Jodhpur in Rajasthan asked his minister to arrange trees for building a new place. The king's men went to forest near a village inhabited by bishnois. The effort of kings was thwarted by the bishnois. A bishnoi woman Amirta Devi showed exemplary courage by hugging a tree. The cruel kings men cut trees along with amirta devi. Her three children and hundreds of other bishnois followed her lost their lives. Now here in history do we find a commitment of this magnitude when human beings sacrificed their lives for the cause of the environment. The government of India have initiated an award to such people who live for the forest and are ready to sacrifice their life for the forest, know as "Amirta devi bishnoi wildlife protection award".

Amazon forest is known as lungs of the earth. It almost gives one third of oxygen on earth. Trees provide cool shade to sit under and take rest. It makes the atmosphere cool and moist. It is proven that the great banyan tree could release such a large amount of oxygen that could clarify our minds and energize our body. Just like a peaceful meditation.

There are no poets who haven't praised the greenery

"Nature never betrays
the persons who love her"
               - Robert frost

Trees contribute to natural beauty which promotes tourism in a country. Various trees with difference in their size, shape, fruits, leaves and blossoms attract the travellers. We should not exploit the nature. The father of English essays Francis bacon once said

"we cannot command nature except by obeying her".

These words shows the intense respect to nature. Thus love trees and there by you love nature.
