Cry of the poor

CRY OF THE POOR

“Wake up Kiyan! Wake up! It's time for school”. 15 year old Kiyan was dragged from his sleep by his mother. They live in a small house at Wuhan in China. His father died three years ago in an accident. They were very poor. It was in the month of January, a cold day when he woke up. He got up, brushed, ate food and started getting ready to go to school. His mom was getting ready to go to her sister's home. It will take two months for her to come back. Then a news came suddenly, like a lightening, without any warning. Yes, it was none other than the deadly virus 'corona' which had already taken the lives of many. The news was really horrifying. Four of his friends died and three teachers have been hospitalised. He was captured by fear, not fearing for his life but his mother's. Schools have been closed. Kiyan changed from his uniform to his torn shirt and knickers and rushed to his mom. He said, “Mom, as we have only one mask, you please wear it. You are so weak. So, i'm afraid you will get the virus. So, please wear this mask.” His mom replied, “No Kiyan, a mother can't save herself by deserting her son. Sooner or later I’ll die. You are small, you need protection. You wear it.” But Kiyan was not willing to wear it. He compelled his mother and at last she had to wear it. With tears in his eyes, she hugged her son for the last time. Then she took the mask and wore it. With a heavy heart, she unwillingly set off to her sister's home. Before going, she asked her son, “Kiyan, dear do you want anything when I come back?”. Kiyan replied, “Mom, all i want is you to come back healthy, and if you don't mind, will you bring me a tumbourine?”. She kissed him and said that she would try her best to buy. Kiyan's eyes was flooding with tears when he saw his mother going. He was afraid, not because he was alone. His mother's life...corona....He didn't know what to do. He prayed and awaited his mother.
Two months had passed. It was the end of the third month. His mother had not returned yet. He was tensed. He cried so much. Then at last he decided to set off to his aunt's home. He had a tough journey because he was only fifteen. He overcame many obstacles through his journey. Finally he reached his aunt's home. There was total silence. Not a single sound was heard. He slowly went inside with fear in his eyes. When he reached the hall, he stood frozen for a moment. In the hall, on the wall....there was his beautiful mom's picture framed and neatly kept. He understood everything. He fell down. He stared tearfully at the photo. He could't believe it. His dear mom was taken to eternity. Everything gone...His life was meaningless now. He couldn't even cry. Then after a few minutes, his aunt came carrying a packet in her hand. She handed it over to him and said, “Your mom told to give this to you.” He took it and unwrapped it with a shrill of cry. He stared at it. His tumbourine....His mom bought it for him....He cried out loudly...”Oh God, what have my mom done to deserve this....?”.
