Merchant Of Venice ( Book Review )  In 8th std English text book we have an extract of the play The Merchant Of Venice. After reading the same the immediate thing I did was to find out the original book from our school library. It took 20 days for me to read it full. "The Merchant of Venice" is a popular romantic play written by William Shakespeare. It was written during the 16th century. The main themes of this play are Love, hatred, revenge, mercy, justice, friendship, etc... The play has the high sense of humour in it... The dialogues made by Shakespeare are of high standard.... He also depicts the true friendship between Antonio and Bassanio... Also the love scenes are beautifully depicted by Shakespeare in this play... The main theme, "Mercy is more important than Justice" is clearly portrayed in this play.... "The plead for mercy" by Portia has the powerful dialogues in it which is so fantastically portrayed in this play... The first part of the play is somewhat difficult to understand. It starts with Antonio being melancholy for no reason.... Also in this play, though he is a good Christian, Antonio won't have the quality of Christ and he condems the Jewish race. But Antonio is compelled to borrow money from the Shylock and he could not pay back on time. Revenge has made Shylock blind leading to the Trial scene which ends brings in wonderful characters in disguise. Truth triumphs in the end. Please enjoy the book as soon as possible.
