GLOBAL WARMING AND ACID RAINFALL
The energy of the sun is emitted as heat radiations About 75% of the energy reaching the earth is reabsorbed and retained by the earth's surface The rest of the heat radiates back to the atmosphere The temperature of the earth's surface is determined by the energy balance between the heat energy, that is radiated back in to space.
Fossil fuel based on Industrialisation and over exploitation of resources like coal, oil and gases by the people have resulted in the concentration of greenhouse gases like CO2, methane, CFC and water vapour. These green house gases in the lower levels of atmosphere trap the solar radiation and not allow the sun rays to escape into outer space. Thus the green house gases add heat to the earth's surface. This results in the increase in temperature on the earth's surface and is commonly called as global warming
The global warming possess the following serious environmental problems

(1) Rise in the global temperature will result in melting of ice masses in the Artic and Antastic regions, resulting in rising of sea level

(2) With the rising of sea level there would be submerganice of many low lying coastal areas

(3) Flooding of the coastal areas will cause massive soil erosion and siltation ,contamination of water and waterborne diseases

(4) In temperature regions, the summer will be longer and hotter where as the winters will be shorter and warmer

(5) The already dry sub-tropical regions may become drier and the tropical regions may become wetter

(6)Desertification, droughts and famine would lead the migration of population and new urbanisation

(7)Due to increased concentration of carbondioxide the growth and yield of plants will increase resulting in rapid depletion of nutrients from the soil.
