Kerala – A Model of Survival “It is not the strongest of the species that survive not the most intelligent but the one most adaptable to change”Darwins theory is true,but man interpreted it wrong. We should adapt to the change of nature but should not change the nature. The worst pandemic in the history is the infestation of earth by humans. The incorrect intervention of man on earth destroyed its equilibrium. It resulted in the formation of a Virus,not even visible through naked eyes. Covid 19 blew as a storm across the world causing deaths of lakhs of people affecting in210 countries. Many countries have already collapsed before this pestilence. When the super powers of the world like America Britain Italy Spain fail to beat this pandemic ,an Indian state Kerala flattens the curve through first class medical facilities and intensive contact tracing. In spite of advances of medicine ,deadly epidemics are more menacing than ever before. The repeated arrival of Viruses in unprecedented rates reveals the cruelty man had done to nature in the form of Global warming and climate change.60% of these viruses zoonotic like Nipah,Zika ,Avian Influenza and others. Habitat destruction due to unscientific urbanisation has placed humans at contacts with animals and hosts of viral infection. About 10 new viruses attacked India in the last 20 years. Unless man stops destroying nature new viruses will spring up and lead to the demolition of mankind. Developed countries including America are drowning in Covid. The public health care facilities of developed countries ,which are competing in case of star ranked hospitals is very terrible. In New York one of the most developed cities in the world one lakh patients were admitted and 10000 deaths were reported in a month. The absence of a proper health care system that begins from the lowest class of the society is the reason for this uncontrollable situation in Italy,Spain and Iran. Without spending lakhs of rupees ,reliable treatment is impossible in developed countries. This worse situation is the result of lack of a reliable public health care system. This is where our public health care system built up with decades of restless effort becomes a model for the world. Advanced hospitals with efficient doctors ,enough medical equipments in every Panchayaths and a well organised health department is the strength of our state. The vigilance we maintained ever since the first case reported and keeping those who doubted of having Covid under Quarantine and isolation stayed as a great safety measure. As a first step ,isolation wards ,sample testing labs and medical facilities were arranged in Medical colleges throughout Kerala. Free testing and free treatment were made available. People were given awareness on the importance of maintaining social distancing and the usage of mask and sanitizers through social media. When India went to a complete lock down ,our state too confined into essential services. Government declared a community kitchen to feed the public ,provided free provisions including rice oil and spices ,social welfare pension to those who were economically weak and a 24 hour helpline number’ Disha”Government framed an online service for the removal of suspicion and to avoid mental conflict of expatriates. New chances of using plasma treatment and rapid test were introduced for speedy recovery and analysis. When countries like America, Italy,France witness mass death,the survival lessons that Kerala ,which is merely 1.18% of India is admirable. When covid cases increased in Kerala our neighbours closed the boundaries,but by giving helping hands to all other countries beyond frontiers, we became a model for nations. This is not the first time that Kerala is prone to a virus attack. Bold and wise way helped to tackle Nipah virus which was far more dangerous than covid. Kerala bravely prevented it from being a pandemic .Sincere and brave doctors and nurses is a boon for Kerala. Now Kerala is having a highest recovery rate and lowest fatality rate. Today “resistance-its Kerala model”is what we hear around.All other nations must adopt the same measures what Kerala did in tackling the deadly virus.Now we are in the path of survival.Kerala moves forward with willpower and determination to survive this difficult time.Blessed weather, conditions excellent bio diversity ,the boundless support of the Government ,health workers and police department and civil society support Kerala in this struggle.Let’s survive the covid pandemic by staying apart but bonding minds.
