Environmental Ethics

Environmental Ethics is an established field of practical philosophy which reconstructs the essential types of argumentation that can be made for protecting natural entities and the sustainable use of natural resources. The importance of environmental ethics is that it make us aware of indiscriminate and destructive human activities, it inculcate moral values towards nature and teach to respect various life forms etc. There are no global laws protecting the environment and that is why everyone should practice good ethics when it comes to the environment.
Environmental ethics studies the effects of human’s moral relationships on the environment and everything within it. Preservation of the environment is essential to the preservation of the human race. “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.”-Mahatma Gandhi. The above quote rightly points out the role of environment for the mankind and the responsibility we need to shoulder for its sustenance. Drastic action is needed now to prevent environmental disaster. Immediate action and changes in attitude are not only necessary for survival but are also morally required. During this present scenario, environmental ethics has a main role. Every material in this world consists of a positive side and a negative side. This is actually true. For example: thunder and lightning, they are frightening and dangerous to humans but during this time plants are enriched as nitrogen in the air gets mixed to the soil through some processes. This is also right in the case of the new novel corona virus. Though it is threatening to mankind it is a gift from God to Mother Nature. As new reports are telling that air pollution is decreasing. Animals are getting spotted on roads. The big astonishment is that they are not normally seen, it means they are RARE. Isn’t that amazing? Nilgai, the biggest Asian antelope was found on Noida. The critically endangered Malabar civet cat was found on the streets of the Calicut town, a school of dolphins were spotted on Mumbai, which is not a usual scene and so many other cases also; which tells us that mother earth is rebooting itself. Even though man is unhappy during these lockdown days environment seems to be delighted.
