OUR ENVIRONMENT

The arrival of living beings on Earth depends exclusively on the availability of a good environment. Environment plays an inevitable role in the development of life on Earth. The environment around us preserves life as mother’s womb protecting the child within!. With no doubt, we can say that it is really a boon to mankind or is the motherly blessings of God. Environment is not same everywhere. It purely depends on the adaptation of human beings. It is the setting in which human as well as countless other organisms can exist.

The part of the environment where life exist is biosphere. The uniqueness of our atmosphere make Earth a different forms of life on earth is ecosystem. Ecosystem has its own vital role in grooming a good environment.

But.....have you ever wondered why is sudden climatic changes that bring out drastic changes in human life??? This is because of the man’s wrong interventions towards the society; that is to the nature. Scientists tell us that Earth is becoming warm every where which led human to exploit nature for their living.

One of the greatest villain among pollutants is the threat of global warming. Global warming is referred to a condition in which the temperature of the earth increases rapidly, thus making our earth warmer. This is because of the increase in some harmful gases which is commonly known as green house gases. CO2, methane, aerosols etc. are considered as green house gases. Savante Arrehenius was the first scientist who proved the consequences of excess amount of theses gases in the atmosphere. Theses are the results of the man's deeds to destroy our ecosystem. We began to torture our Earth at the time of Industrial Revolution, which broke out in the early 18th century.

During the time of Industrial Revolution, numerous factories had sprang up. People cut trees extensively to bring up factories there. Indigenous culture were severely destroyed. The period witnessed the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation which led to the pollution of environment Another threat our world so far facing is population. The growing human population had severely affected our nature. We cut trees for towns and cities. The demand of more and more resources will be under water. Pollution also adversely affects nature’s ecosystem. Recently Delhi, our national capital has been in the news for being the second most polluted city in the world. Air pollution leads to destruction of good air. Moreover, they also contribute to the global warming. Pollution also leads to the outbreak of many diseases. We should control pollution so that we can overcome these diseases.

Studies says that the holes in the ozone layer had been seen in the the last 35 – 50 years. If we didn't control our wrong interventions to the nature ; it in turn leads to the destruction of life. World has taken several initiatives for overcoming this upcoming threat.

Global Warming can be the result of both man-made and natural causes. A major natural cause is the releasing of methane gas from Artic Tundra. Green house gases are at a specific amount in the atmosphere. They trap heat, thus regulating the temperature. But over production of gases are not only harmful for humans, but also to the other organisms in the Earth. The organism that will suffer the most is Polar Bear. Today, they are in a verge of destruction because of the uncontrollable melting of snow in Arctic region. If these melting continues, small islands like Maldives, Nauru etc. UNO has made IPCC ( Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) and UNEP (United Nations Environmental Programme) for the protection of Environment. Kyoto Protocol, held in 1997, declared the protection from all the hazards towards the environment, especially ozone layer depletion. As a result, the conditions are being better day by day.

Many environmentalists had also sprang up to protect the nature. Greta Tuneberg, a girl of sixteen from Sweden is the prominent one. Her campaign, known as “Friday for Future” had been accepted world widely. She was selected as the 'Person of the Year' by Time Magazine. Like Greta, many voices upraised from hooks and corners of world. Chico Mendes from Brazil, Rachel Carson from US, John Muir from Scotland were a few among them. In India too, revolutions were brought out to save nature by Vandana Shiva, Medha Patkar, Sunderlal Bahuguna etc.

Environment is only the safest place where life can exists. Protection of our nature should be done by us. Our existence and survival depends purely on the environment. It's not too late!...We should lend our hands towards the protection of nature.

So friends, let us save our nature for us and our future.....We can and We will protect.
