ആമുഖം

മലങ്കരയിലെ പ്രധാന തീര്‍ത്ഥാടന കേന്ദ്രവും കോതമംഗലത്തിന്റെ എല്ലാ ഐശ്വര്യത്തിന്റെയും ശക്തി ചൈതന്യവുമായ വി. മാര്‍ത്തോമ്മ ചെറിയ പള്ളിയുടെ ഉടമസ്ഥതയില്‍ മഹാപരിശുദ്ധനായ യല്‍ദോ മാര്‍ബസേലിയോസ്‌ ബാവായുടെ പരിപാവന നാമത്തില്‍ ആരംഭിച്ച പ്രഥമ സ്ഥാപനം-മാര്‍ ബേസില്‍ ഹയര്‍ സെക്കന്ററി സ്‌ക്കൂള്‍. ശ്രീ. ചിത്തിര തിരുനാള്‍ ബാലരാമ വര്‍മ്മ മഹാരാജാവു നാടുവാണിരുന്ന കാലത്ത്‌ ദിവാന്‍ സര്‍ സി.പി. രാമസ്വാമി അയ്യര്‍, സത്യവിശ്വാസ സംരക്ഷകനായ പരിശുദ്ധ പൗലോസ്‌ മാര്‍ അത്തനാസിയോസ്‌ വലിയ തിരുമേനി, സഭയിലെ മറ്റ്‌ മേലദ്ധ്യക്ഷന്മാര്‍, ഇടവകയിലേയും സമൂഹത്തിലേയും ശ്രേഷ്‌ഠ വ്യക്തികള്‍ എന്നിവരുടെ പരിശ്രമഫലമായി 1936-ല്‍ ഹൈറേഞ്ചിന്റെ കവാടമായ കോതമംഗലത്തിന്റെ ഹൃദയഭാഗത്ത്‌ ഈ മഹാപ്രസ്ഥാനത്തിന്‌ തുടക്കം കുറിച്ചു. പ്രിവേറ്ററി, ഫസ്റ്റ്‌ ഫാറം എന്നിവയോടെ ആരംഭിച്ച മാര്‍ബേസില്‍ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ്‌ സ്‌ക്കൂള്‍ പിന്നീട്‌ മാര്‍ബേസില്‍ ഹൈസ്‌ക്കൂളായും ഉയര്‍ന്നു. ഈ സ്‌ക്കൂളിന്റെ ആദ്യത്തെ ഹെഡ്‌മാസ്റ്റര്‍ റഫ. ഫാദര്‍ സി.റ്റി കുര്യാക്കോസ്‌ ആയിരുന്നു. ശ്രീ. കെ.വി. പൗലോസ്‌ ദീര്‍ഘകാലം ഈ സ്‌ക്കുളിലെ പ്രധാനാദ്ധ്യാപകനായി സേവനം അനുഷ്‌ഠിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള മഹത്‌വ്യക്തിയാണ്‌. മാര്‍ബേസിലിന്റെ ചരിത്രത്തില്‍ സുവര്‍ണലിപികളില്‍ എഴുതപ്പെട്ട കാലഘട്ടമായിരുന്നു അത്‌. കോതമംഗലത്തെ സ്‌ക്കൂളുകളില്‍ നിന്നും എസ്‌.എസ്‌. എല്‍ സി. ക്ക്‌ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതല്‍ മാര്‍ക്ക്‌ വാങ്ങുന്ന കുട്ടിയ്‌ക്ക്‌ ലഭിക്കുന്ന കൃഷ്‌ണന്‍ നായര്‍ മെമ്മോറിയല്‍ മെഡല്‍ പലതവണയും ഈ സ്‌ക്കൂളിലെ കുട്ടികള്‍ക്ക്‌ ലഭിച്ചിട്ടു്‌. 1961-ല്‍ ശ്രീ ഫിലിപ്പ്‌ സാറിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തില്‍ ഈ സ്‌ക്കൂളിന്റെ രജത ജൂബിലി ഒരു മാസം നീുനിന്ന വിവിധ പരിപാടികളോടെ ആഘോഷിച്ചു. അന്നത്തെ മുഖമന്ത്രി ശ്രി. പട്ടം എ താണുപിള്ള ഉദ്‌ഘാടനം ചെയ്‌ത ജൂബിലയാഘോഷങ്ങള്‍ ഒരു മാസം നീുനിന്ന അഖിലേന്ത്യാ പ്രദര്‍ശനത്തോടെയാണ്‌ സമാപിച്ചത്‌. അന്നത്തെ ഇന്ത്യന്‍ ഉപരാഷ്‌ട്രപതി ഡോ. എസ്‌. രാധാകൃഷ്‌ണനായിരുന്നു സമാപനം സമ്മേളനം ഉദ്‌ഘാടനം ചെയ്‌തത്‌. ഈ വിദ്യാലയത്തിന്റെ കനകജൂബിലി 1986-ല്‍ മുന്നു ദിവസങ്ങളിലായ്‌ വിവിധ പരിപാടികളോടെ ആഘോഷിച്ചു. പരിശുദ്ധ പാത്രിയര്‍ക്കീസ്‌ ബാവ, ശ്രി. വി. വി. ഗിരി, പണ്ഡിക്‌ ജവഹര്‍ലാല്‍ നെഹ്‌റു, ശ്രീമതി ഇന്ദിരാഗാന്ധി, ശ്രീ. രാജ്ജീവ്‌ ഗാന്ധി, ശ്രീ എച്ച്‌.ഡി ദേവഗൗഡ എന്നിവരുടെ പാദസ്‌പര്‍ശത്താല്‍ അനുഗ്രഹീതമാണ്‌ ഈ കലാലയം. പ്രശസ്‌ത സേവനത്തിന്‌ ഒരദ്ധ്യാപകന്‌ ലഭിക്കാവുന്ന സംസ്ഥാന അവാര്‍ഡും, പരമോന്നത ബഹുമതിയായ ദേശീയ അവാര്‍ഡും, ഈ സ്‌ക്കൂളിലെ അധ്യാപകനായിരുന്ന ശ്രീ. സി.കെ അലക്‌സാര്‍ സാറിന്‌ ലഭിച്ചിട്ടു്‌.

ഈ വിദ്യാലയം കഴിഞ്ഞ കുറേ വര്‍ഷങ്ങളായി സമസ്‌ത രംഗങ്ങളിലും മുന്നേറുകയാണ്‌. ഇന്ന്‌ കേരളത്തിന്റെ കായിക തലസ്ഥാനമെന്ന്‌ കോതമംഗലം അറിയപ്പെടുന്നതിന്‌ മാര്‍ബേസില്‍ എച്ച്‌. എസ്‌.എസിന്‌ മുഖ്യപങ്കു്‌. ഒരു കാലത്ത്‌ കോരുത്തോടിന്റെ പേരില്‍ മാത്രം അറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന സ്‌ക്കൂള്‍ കായികരംഗത്തിന്‌ ആദ്യമായി വെല്ലുവിളി ഉയര്‍ത്തിയത്‌ മാര്‍ബേസിലാണ്‌. കായിക രംഗത്തിന്‌ സ്‌ക്കൂള്‍ മാനേജ്‌മെന്റ്‌ നല്‍കുന്ന അകമഴിഞ്ഞ സഹായ സഹകരണമാണ്‌ ഈ വിജയത്തിന്‌ പിന്നില്‍. ഐ.റ്റി മേഖലയില്‍ തികച്ചും നൂതനമായ കാല്‍വെപ്പ്‌ നടത്താന്‍ ഈ വിദ്യാലയത്തിന്‌ കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു്‌. സംസ്ഥാന ഗവണ്‍മെന്റിന്റെ 2005-06 ലെ മികച്ച ക.ഠ. @ടരവീീഹ എന്ന പുരസ്‌ക്കാരം കഴിഞ്ഞു.

About MBHSS Kothamangalam

Mar Basil Higher Secondary School was built in the name of St.Yeldo Mar Baselious Bava. It is owned by the St. Thomas Church (cheriyapalli). The school has consistently managed to attain excellent scholastic performance over the years. That excellence has percolated into sports as well. Our recent successes in sports stand as a true testament to our commitment towards the society by creating individuals healthy in mind and body.

In 1935, an upper primary school near the St. Thomas Church, run by the State Government of Kerala was forced to close down owing to specific reasons. From then on the members of this church took it upon themselves to have an institution that would aim to uplift the educational and cultural face of Kothamangalam and its surrounding areas.

In 1936, with the help of Sir C.P Ramaswami (the Divan of Travancore under the rule of Shri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma Maharaja), erstwhile Management Committee members, leaders and most importantly with the blessings of St.Yeldo Mar Baselious Bava, the school started functioning at the heart of Kothamangalam.

The school started with prepatory and first form then progressed towards high school. The Mar Basil Higher Secondary School can now proudly claim that over 3000 students have completed their schooling successfully.

Rev. Father. C.T.Kuriakose was the first headmaster and since then the school has steadily progressed in each and every related aspect. The Krishnan Nair Memorial Award was constituted to award high scoring students in SSLC and +2 from three high schools in Kothamanagalam. And for most of the years the students of Mar Basil have managed to win this coveted award. Inspired from the Santhosh Trophy (football) the school had initiated the Mar Basil Football Tournament. The tournament is celebrated like a festival in Kothamangalam.

The Silver Jubilee was held in 1961. The Late Mr. Philip Sir lead the event . The then Chief Minister of Kerala Sri Pattam Thanu Pillai inaugurated the jubilee. H.E. Geevarghese Mar Gregorius gave the Presidential address. The one month long program had an All India Exhibition which attracted a lot of people. In the memory of the event, an auditorium was built which was functioning till recently.

In 1996, the school celebrated Golden jubilee. The presidential address was given by the then education minister Shri T.M Jacob and Shri Noorudheen laid the foundation stone for the Mar Basil stadium .

Kothamangalam is known as the sports capital of Kerala and Mar Basil has played an active role in it. The school has stood second for many years in all of Kerala. The school has facilities to train around 100 students. It has a sports hostel and gymnasium for both boys and girls. Inorder to maintain international standards, the school has obtained the services of professional trainers and possess state of the art medical fitness check facilities etc.

The school has an excellent computer and science laboratory. It also has one of the best libraries among the schools in Kerala. In 2008-09, this school was the top most opted school by the candidates for the +2 admission. The students who passed out from Mar Basil continue to hold major positions in various parts of the world. The main strength of the school is its creative group of parents and teachers.

The school has been visited by the Pathiriyarkis Bava Ignathiyos, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Smt. Indira Gandhi, Sri. V.V. Giri, Shri Rajiv Gandhil and Shri H.D. Devegowda.

ഞങ്ങളുടെ സ്കൂള്‍ സ്പോര്‍ട്സ് രംഗത്ത് 2009-10 സംസ്ഥാന തലത്തില്‍ ഒന്നാം സ്ഥാനം കൈവരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.

10th YEAR OF GOLDEN ACHIEVEMENTS

Mar Basil has been achieving amazing growth in the sportsfield for the last ten years. The school that was nearly 'zero' in 1998 is utterly a 'hero' of today's sports world. Prof. P.K Mathew the formeer manager of the school has taken a major step towards the sports filed in 1999 by posting Mr. Jimmy Joseph and Mrs. Shiby Mathew as sports teachers and by giving practice to the nearly 30 students of that time. In the same year the school has many achievements in the state and national level. Our school was the first school which won championship in Amature Athletic meet. C.M Manoj whose name was written in golder letters in the history of sports won 5 gold medals in the 'interzone National Meet' held at Laknow. That was a splendid inspiration to school as well as management for giving more emphasise to the sports and games. The golder flutters of the Mar Basil Higher Secondary school made Kothmangalam as the centre zone of sports in kerala. Many state records are there in the name of our athlets.

Mar Basil School has a major role in the shining performance of kerala team in the National Meets. Since the year 1999 , Mar Basil athlets had achieved 44 gold 36 silver and 21 bronze for kerala stage in the National Meet held and different places.

The contributions and Co-operation of our school management is an inevitable factor behind the glorious achievement of our school. The management is giving free food and accomadation for about 100 sports students. They are also providing all the facilities such as sports goods, hostel warden , special coaches, medicine ..etc. The management is giving more concern to games and well as sports. The financial support from Government is inadequate for any of the activities in this field. At the same time, the support from SAI sports authority of India is a blessing. They supply sports kit and other sports equipments besides the stipend giving to the children’s.

BASIL TROPHY TOURNAMENT

Basil trophy tournament is the first step of Mar Basil towards the sports world. The tournament that started in 1963 and still continuing now shows our heridity in teh field of sports. It is on of the best school football tournament.

കുട്ടികളില്‍ ജനാധിപത്യ അവബോധം സൃഷ്ടിക്കുവാന്‍ വേണ്ടി ഗവണ്‍മെന്റ് നിര്‍ദ്ദേശമനുസരിച്ച് സ്കൂള്‍ പാര്‍ലമെന്റ് സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

കുട്ടികളുടെ വായനാശീലം വളര്‍ത്തുവാന്‍ വേണ്ടി പുസ്തകങ്ങളുടെ വന്‍ ശേഖരമുള്ള, റീഡിങ്ങ് സൗകര്യത്തോടെ ഒരുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്ന വിശാലമായ ലൈബ്രറി ഇവിടെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തക്കുന്നു.

Mar Basil Higher Secondary School library offers students with an excellent selection of books and magazines on general as well as other subjects. Specious library equipped with 50000 books,magazines and its running with the help of Rotary Club. There are sections devoted to text books and reference books, Board Examination Reviews, news papers, poetry ..etc

Our computerized library help the student and teachers to search the books very easily. Also we provide free Internet to the students and if they wish students are allowed to take photo copy of reference books.

Two qualified librarians guide the students in reference skills and efficient reading habits.

പഠന സൗകര്യത്തിന് 25 കംപ്യൂട്ടറുകള്‍ വീതമുള്ള സുസജ്ജമായ 2 ഐ.ടി ലാബുകള്‍ ഇവിടെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്നു
