Environment Environmental issues and conservation of environment. Introduction Environmental studies deals with every issue that affects a living organism. Environment refer to the sum total of Gnditions which surround man at a given point in space and time. Environment is the representative of physical components of the earth where in man is the important factor influening his environment. We can visualise certain problems that affect our environment. a) Killing wild animals Our nature is a boon to mankind which is constituted by all resources.Wildlife is an essential part of it. But today this wildlife is being destructed by human beings for their profit. Wild animals are removed from the forests for human inhabitation.Killing of wild animals is a hobby for some people. By killing these wild animals man is exploiting his own natural wealth. This killing of wild animal is an important environmental issue. b) Building huge dams Huge dams are built for overcoming human needs.Forests as well as paddy fields are cleared off. Even though dams are necessary for irrigation and agriculture. we should not fogethe bad effect of building dams. Animal life is destroyed for centres regarding building dams. c) Plastic waste plastic is one of the modern ingradient used by humanity. Many substances used by man in their day to day life is made of plastic. After its use these wastages are thrown somewhere else. For eg: rivers, ponds, lakes, freelands are used for their residence . These residing plastic wastes may causes pollution to water, soil, air etc. When these plastic wastes are burned it affects the air and thus produce air pollution. Plastic wastes also reduces the soil fertility of lands. When these plastic wastes are disposed to rivers, ponds etc it may affect the aquatic environment. Metallic and plastic pipes may also contribute cadmium in water. d) indiscriminate use of fertilizers and pesticides The fertilizers such as various nitrates used for the crops are washed to ponds and rivers. These fertilizers contaminated drinking water. On reduction of these nitrates to nitrites in the stomach, it combines with haemogobin and reduces the oxygen carrying capacity of blood. The fertilizers used for agriculture in large quantity reduces the soil fertility. Indiscriminate use of fertilizers may cause various health disorders. e) World environment day World environment day is celebrated on June 5 to make people understand the importance of the environment and spread awareness about it. Awarness programs are also organised in many places on this occasion. Therefore, to protect the environment and to keep clean, we all should try together .Our life is completely dependent on the environment because a healthy environment creates a healthy society. f) Conservation of environment Conservation of nature means the preservation of forests, land, water bodies and minerals, fuels, natural gases etc. Thus all these natural resources make life worthlining on earth. Life would not being imaginable without air, water, sunlight as well as other natural resources present on the earth.
