IMPORTANCE OF CLEANLINESS Meaning of cleanliness is ‘to keep clean and avoid dirt’. The practice of cleaning everything is cleanliness. There are different types of cleanliness including cleaning of clothes, cleaning of house, cleaning of streets, cleaning ourselves etc. The most important is to clean ourselves because if we do not care for our cleanliness, we do not bother about the cleanliness of our surroundings. We feel the importance of cleanliness only when we do practice personal hygiene. The practices of washing hands and bathing are necessary to keep ourselves clean. Cleaning of environment is very important. The environment may be our home, school or our neighbourhood. Some people have the habit of throwing waste on the road. It must be stopped. A clean environment has an healthy effect on our mind and body, while a dirty environment has a bad effect on health. All the diseases are caused by the infectious agents in the environment and these agents are very active in dirty environment. Cleanliness can prevent communicable diseases such as COVID-19 which we are facing now. Cleanliness is next to Godliness. Indian government initiatives like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan hopes for a cleaner India.
