The world Health organization declared the novel corona virus or covid-19 as a global pandemic on march 11
The Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan in january asserted that the country is well-equipped to tackle the corona outbreak and that a group of ministers is monitoring the corona virus cases in India.As of today, many steps have been taken by the government at state and central level to tackle the global pandemic of Covid-19. Indian nationals are strongly advised to avoid all non-essential travel abroad. On their return, they are subjected to quarantine for a minimum of 28 days. All schools, colleges and cinema halls will remain shut till May-3 as a measure to counter the corona virus.
Union Ministry Of Road Transport and Highways advised states and union territories to take all steps for sanitization of public transport, vehicles and terminals.
The kerala government closed all educational institutions in the state till May 3.The government introduced the campaign 'Break the chain 'to fight against the fatal corona virus. On 22 March 2020, India observed a 14 hour voluntary public curfew in the instance of prime minister Narendra Modi. The government followed it up with lockdowns in 75 districts where covid cases had occurred as well as all major cities. Further, on 24 march, the prime mnister ordered a national wide lockdown for 21days, affecting the entire 1.3 billion population of India. On 14 April, the prime minister extended the ongoing national wide lockdown till May 3. WHO said that India had tremendous capacity to deal with the corona virus outbreak and as the second most populated country, will have enormous impact on the worlds ability to deal with it.
