Virus that changed my day !!
The clock struck 5:30 in the morning, my mother and granny got up from their beds and went to the kitchen and started their daily chores.
Granny gave a cup tea to my grandpa who is reading news paper in the veranda. Granny with a cup of tea went to the drawing room and switched on the television. She is watching the breaking news of corona virus that shook the whole world today. I’m lying on sofa running my fingers through the tik tok videos on mobile. Seeing me on mobile, Granny started shouting at me saying; don’t waste the best time of the day on this stupid mobile.
Granny never liked to see me spending hours together playing games on mobile. She used to always complaint about this to my mother. But being a mother’s pet, she used to just laugh it off.
Today, morning when my granny went to the back yard of our home, she saw my mother digging the ground. Granny was surprised and taken back after seeing my mother making ground for growing vegetables.
My mom decided to cultivate vegetables in the backyard of our house. She has never done such a thing earlier; but it was a pleasant surprise for all of us. When I looked at my granny, she was standing like a statue after seeing my mother working in the garden.
When my granny opened her usual complaint box, my mom got very angry on me and shouted at me. She asked me to keep the mobile and asked me to help her in the garden. I was also surprised by her words because; it is very rare she gets angry. Granny asked my mom; ‘What are you doing? , that I have never seen before’. She said ‘Mother…. the news that we are hearing from the world are shocking. Almost every country in the world is under Corona attack! Every alternate person in the world is affected by this deadly virus. This might also lead to food shortage in the world in coming months.
So as a precaution I have started to cultivate vegetables in the space available‘. By hearing this granny and I looked at each other in astonishment because, we felt my mother is very concern about the situation prevailing in the whole world. Granny said ‘My child, what you are doing is excellent, I have told you even before to grow vegetables required for our home requirements but you never gave ears to my words.
But this pandemic made you to realize the importance of self reliance and decided to grow vegetables. In olden days, our ancestors used to spend their whole life in the agriculture fields, so they were physically and mentally stronger than us. That is why they were healthier than us and also they had high immunity power compare to us. In that earlier years not only the elderly people, but also the small children used to engage in farming. Now the lifestyle of the people has changed drastically in every corner of the world. Everyone is on the mobile phone spending hours on unworthy things. They have no time for physical activities. Even, the parents are not spending enough time with their children and encouraging them to lead a healthy life. This will put the world in very dangerous situation like the one which we are in now.
‘Yes granny, you are right, from now on-wards I will help you and my mom in the kitchen rather than wasting valuable time on mobile.
Oh my boy! At last you realized. Let us pray to God to save our mother earth and its children from this ongoing pandemic.
