ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION
Environment is the natural conditions in which we live,such as air,water and land.we have inherited this environment from our ancestors.we have a duty to preserve this and hand over to next generation.But what is happening today is we are polluting the environment and making the earth unfit for human habitation.we are destroying future generations for the sake of satisfying our vanity or for the sake of satisfying our desires for pleasures.We should realise our mistakes and take steps to protect the environment and to prevent pollution. Let us consider about the air we breathe .Smoke from the factories poisons the air we breathe.The smoke emitted by the the enormous vehicles are even more poisonous.we cannot say that there should be no factories and no motor vehicles.we cannot put the clock back.But we can take steps to reduce pollution.Factory owners should be told to eliminate pollution or to keep pollution within reasonable limits.A complete lock down of factories for a day in a year can be taken into consideration on our current scenario. Sound pollution is another serious problem .Too much of sound not only destroys our peace of mind but also harms our health.Loudspeakers and the horns of motor vehicles cause sound pollution.The use of loud speakers and horns should be kept under control.Even if there are laws which enables the prevention of loudspeakers many are violating those rules. The pollution of water is another serious problem.Many factories pump their waste materials into rivers and lakes.Thus the water in the rivers and lakes become polluted and unfit for drinking.There should be instructions to treat the waste materials with suitable chemicals in order to remove pollutants. Scientific studies says that thirty percent of land should be under forests.But today in Kerala the area of forest is only twenty percent of total area.The area of forests have been shrinking because people have been destroying forests to build houses,dams and factories When forest is destroyed there will be less rain .Moreover there will be soil erosion .The land will be barren and food production will decrease rapidly.
