Delampady – the treasure of nature, fully covered by reserve forests from 3 sides.Delampady is a land of multiculture. It is a centre of multilanguage. In ancient times Tulu was the only language of this area. Due to the migration people of all community have came here and get their shelter in this nature rich hub of Kerala. Now the people of all Religions ad communities are living here. Delampady is a Village coming under Delampady Panchayat,Kasaragod Taluk and District of Kerala State. Our Village office is situated at Parappa and Panchayat office is situated at Adoor. Earlier as per the information we are getting from the older people this land was under the control of Ballals, the Tulu speaking Kings belongs to Jainism. But there is not even a single person here who belongs to Jainism. These Jain Kings gave this area to Bunt and Brahmin landlords. After that they have gave shelter to the tenants of different communities. So a strong Jamindari system or Feudalism was emerged in this area. This system was prevailed up 60s and 70s.Then because of the land reforms act ‘Tiller is became the owner of the land’.Hence the people got their land and so many families have emerged as agriculturists. Before 1980s only Hindus and Muslims are here. A large group of Christians have migrated from Southern Kerala during this period. So many people have also come here. This migration gave a major change to the society of this village. Introduction of Rubber plantation from these people made the locals to look in to this new field. Earlier cashew nut was the only plantation crop of hill areas of Delampady. Then this has transformed to Rubber. Now it is a wonder to say that more than 97% of the dry land has come under Rubber plantation. This changed the financial status of our area. Now more than 75% of the families are having Rubber plantation and the standard of living is also improved a lot. Except Rubber, the other conventional crops of this area are arecanut, coconut, pepper, coca, paddy etc. Like other parts of our State Paddy fields are diminishing day by day. Geographically and politically speaking Delampady is fully covered by the land areas of Karnataka state.7 to 8 roads are connecting our area to the outside world, among them 7 roads are touching Delampady after crossing Karnataka State. This is also a major hindrance for the development of our area. The people of this area have major contacts with the cities of Karnataka Puttur,Sullia and Mangalore for commercial transactions, business, education, medical facilities etc. Most of the people are coming to kasaragod for offcial purpose only in most of the times. Now this place is rich in culture. Different religions and communities have gave their own contribution in the cultural development of this area. Besides the general celeberations and cultural performances of major religions we can see the Gondolu Nritya a special worshiping dance of Marati community,Koraga Nritya,Kanyapu,Aati kalanja,Sona Jogi etc which made this place culturally rich. But nowdays because of the influence of the modern culture the people who were performed this from ancient times are giving away this performances. Yakshagana is the major art form that the people of Delampady are performing.Banari Sri Gopalakrishna Yakshagana Kala Sangha is doing the lead role in developing this art form. There is more than 25 famous Yakshagana artists are here. Among them some people like Kedagadi Guddappa Gowda (got State award),Sri K V Narayana Rai,Sri Pakkeera Alva Sri Mahalinga Patali,Sri K Babu Rai,Sri Ramappa Gowda, and others gave their great contribution to this field and left this world after leaving this great art to the next generation.Sri M Narayana Rai,Sri M Ramananda Rai,Sri Balakrishna Gowda,Sri Mohana Menasinakana,Sri Veerappa Nadubail,Sri Sanjeeva Mayyala,Sri Rama Naika Delampady,Sri Ramanna Master, sri D Venkatramana Bhat,Sri Sadashiva Rai Bellippady,Sri Kusumadhara Valthaje and others are the famous Yakshagana artists of the area who are performing the same in nowadays also. Sri Vishwa Vinoda Banari is now taking the lead role as a director in our area in Yakshagana. In the field of Yoga a man from from my village Sri Gopalakrishna Delampady , now settled at Mangalore has done greatest achievements. The people who are speaking Tulu,Kannada,Malayalam,Konkani,Marati,Arebhashe(gowda kannada),Havyaka Kannada,Byari bhashe, shivalli Tulu and Tamil are living here. The celebrations of the area are deepavali – Parba,Keddasa,Bisu,Aati amavasye,Pernal,Christmas,Hajj Penal,Moulod, etc. The village has 7 Mosques,3 temples,6-7-daivasthanas,bhajana mandirs and a Church. The place is well connected from Kasaragod,Puttur,Ishwaramangala,Sullia by bus, jeep and other vehicles. To sum up now Delampady a land which has evolved from time to time with the contribution of different religions, communities, people and culture is now developing as a miniature form of India with its diversity. The people of all groups gave their great contribution for the religious harmony, cultural unity and economic stability of our village DELAMPADY – THE DREAM GIRL OF NATURE. *************** *********** *****
