PRAYERS OF A LITTLE MIND
April 20 2013. Noha. She came to this world as the only daughter of two famous software engineers .She was lucky to have all those things that she wanted right from her childhood and at the same time her luck didn’t turned well on one thing, the love from her mamma and papa. Right from birth she barely got the chance to spend with her papa as he was always busy with his office works. And her mamma, she was no different from her papa. She started going to office when Noha was three months old. After that maids took care of her. At that time all she wanted was lots and lots of toys which were already there in her room her room though she was happy. But everything started to disappear when she came to understand the reality. One fine day, she was going to her school in her car. She was four then. In the street she noticed a mother giving her child a kiss on his cheeks. 'Why had I never got a kiss from my mamma?....',she thought again and again. Slowly she started to notice that there was something wrong in the way how her parents treated her. She decided to ask this to her parents. One night she came near her papa to ask this. He was busy shouting at someone through phone. When the call ended Noha slowly called, "Papa...." "Get out of my sight you little brat" Unable to hold her tears, she ran back to her room .She was shivering. No one ever shouted to her like that. She fell asleep while crying. After a few days she started to notice some arguments between her mamma and papa. She also noticed her papa acting abnormal at times. He started shouting at everyone and it smelled stinky around him. Poor Noha! She was not able to understand that her papa was an alcoholic. Fights became usual in that house. Her parents tried their best not to see each other. They tried to reach back home as late as possible, mostly around 12 or 1 ‘o’clock at night. Noha barely got the chance to see her parents. Her world shrunk into her school and her room. Years passed. One fine day of March 2020, she came home after her exams. One of the maids informed her that she don't have to go to school from now on. She felt sad at first as school was the only place where she enjoyed. But when she realized that she doesn’t have to write exams she felt a little bit of happiness. Day by day she started discovering her new talents. And she started to find happiness in her own ways. A month passed. One morning Noha noticed her parents sitting in the hall with their laptops. From their calmness she understood that they were not going to office that day. She went to kitchen and noticed that the maids were not there too. She felt something wrong. She came back to her mamma and asked, "Mamma, why is there no one in the kitchen?" "Maids won’t come from now on" She answered without taking her eyes from her laptop. Noha wanted to know more. But she stopped asking. She was afraid whether her mamma will shout back. Her parents didn't went anywhere on that day. They were sitting here and there with phones and laptops, scrolling, starring and attending phone calls from time to time. It was Noha's first time seeing her parents staying at home. Her mamma cooked food since there were no maids. Noha ate it all happily even though it tasted bad. It was her first time eating food prepared by her mamma. Days passed. Fights between her parents started to disappear. They started to talk to each other and even started to do housekeeping together. Noha was amazed to see all these. And slowly they started to love their daughter. They started to talk, play and laugh with her. Noha's little mind filled with happiness. For the first time she started to feel the love and care from her parents. Days passed faster than she thought. Within a blink it was her birthday. She was turning seven. Usually her birthdays were celebrated in a luxurious manner. Her parents used to hold parties for her. Lots of gifts and wishes would come from strangers. But this birthday, it was entirely different. At morning when she woke up and came downstairs from her room she got a surprise birthday wish from her parents and kisses and hugs too. Mamma prepared special dishes for her and she feed her for the first time. Papa tried to spend most of the time to play with Noha even though he got phone calls and lots of works from his office. At evening they all sat happily to watch TV. Papa put the news channel. Noha noticed the word Corona being told many times in the TV. "Papa, what is Corona?" "Corona is a deadly virus, dear." "Wires?!!" "No dear...Virus...V..I..R..U..S", mamma answered laughing. "What is a virus?" "Virus is smaller than a dust which spread diseases. It can be anywhere but we can’t see with our eyes. And it may kill lots and lots of people. That’s why we are staying at home." Noha understood why her parents are staying with her. In a way she was thankful to Corona. It was due to this epidemic disease that she was able to spend such precious moments with her parents. That night her parents told her to sleep with them. She didn't even have a memory of her sleeping with her parents. She thought that there may they have a separate bed in their room. But she was astonished to know that she was going to sleep together with her parents in the same bed. That little angel felt like she was the happiest in the world at that moment. Lying in between her mamma and papa she prayed silently, 'Corona...Please stay with us forever...'
