The greatest wealth is health! You can live without good wealth but without good health, it is impossible to survive. If you lose health you lose everything. Health is not merely the absence of disease and infirmity but a state of complete physical, social and mental well being. Health is a great blessing of God. Good health is a matter of great concern. To maintain good health, healthy living and a disciplined life is a must. We should take care of our health and for this, we must eat healthily and be healthy! People who are not involved in the healthy lifestyle may suffer a range of health diseases like overweight, high blood pressure, heart diseases, obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, kidney problems, liver diseases and so many so, then What is disease prevention? It is a procedure through which individuals particularly those with risk factors for a disease, are treated in order to prevent a disease from occurring. Disease prevention is important since taking care of yourself prevent health problems and saves money by reducing the number of office visits and medications you need paying attention to safety maximizes your chances of living a long, healthy and productive life. Did you know that according to WHO,80% of chronic diseases are preventable The major contributors to chronic diseases are an unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and tobacco use? Your lifestyle choices have more impact on your health and longevity People who take care of their health have the chance to enjoy an improved quality of life, reduced absentism, increased satisfaction and health care. Without question the most important positive action you can take care of to prevent illness and disease is exercise. There are many other steps like avoiding smoking and drinking, eating healthy food like fruits and vegetables. let’s see how diseases can be prevented There are a few basic steps in disease prevention. The first one is ‘ NO SMOKING’ The most negative lifestyle behaviour is smoking. Smoking contributes to the development of almost all diseases, notably cancer, heart disease, high BP, high cholesterol diabetes and asthma. Smoking lowers your immunity; makes you more likely to get bronchitis, cold and other infections. Interferes with breathing coughing sneezing and asthma, cause snoring and sleep apnea If you quit smoking before the disease becomes chronic, you can reverse most of the effects smoking has on the body breathing, snoring, etc. Problems exist, however, if smoking has done permanent damage So, the best thing you can do is exercise, the worst is smoke. The second step is exercise. Exercise prevents a long list of diseases that can e serve and cause chronic illness, disability and even death including cancer, obesity, osteoporosis, vascular diseases, etc. Daily physical activity can help to prevent heart disease and stroke by preventing obesity and by strengthening your heart muscle, lowering your Blood pressure, raising your high-density HDL level and lowering low-density lipoprotein.,improving blood flow and increasing your heart's working capacity. By physical activity, body fat is reduced and non-insulin dependent diabetes is kept at bay. A healthy diet is another important method to prevent diseases. Healthy eating prevents obesity. Obesity is a major risk factor for many diseases. Eating foods loaded with sugar, fats, and calories can add extra weight to your body, weakening your bones, and making your organs work harder. This automatically puts you at high risk. Without enough calcium, your bones can become brittle and weak. So diet including plenty of calcium can prevent diseases related to bones(For example, Osteoporosis) Healthy eating improves the mood which in turn boosts physical activity Dairy foods contain not only calcium but also contain plenty of protein and vitamins and minerals. Dark green leafy vegetables contain a high amount of calcium that can ward off bone-related diseases. Dairy foods help to maintain blood sugar levels. Fatty fish containing omega 3 fatty acids helps in lowering blood fat prevents blood clots associated with heart disease. Leafy vegetables contain vitamin minerals, beta carotene, folate, iron, magnesium, carotenoids, phytochemicals, and antioxidants. It helps in reducing the risk of developing type two diabetes. Whole grains contain folic acid, selenium that are important to heart health, weight control. These foods can help you in preventing diseases. I believe that prevention is better than cure, so we have to focus our energy in order to be ready for everything
