In these difficult times, it is necessary to create unique possibilities for the students to maintain their excitement and energy and to keep them engaged in productive learning. The English Club of SSHSS Vazhithala offers such a dynamic platform for the students to showcase their literary talents. The club tries to compensate for the lack of exposure opportunities to English as a second language for our students.

Honouring the Father of Library Movement, Late P N Panicker, Reading Day was celebrated on 19th June 2021. The club decided to observe the month of June as ‘Reading Month’. SSHSS family celebrated Reading Day virtually. Quiz, book review and storytelling competitions were conducted for the students. Students thoroughly enjoyed all the competitions as it ignited the minds of young learners. Since the students of today lack passion for reading, this initiative taken by the club seems to be instrumental in bringing a positive change.
On the occasion of Independence Day (15th August), English Club of the school organized an online speech competition with an aim to give students an opportunity to improve their speaking skills and to lessen the wall of their shyness in using English to communicate.
At the meeting held in September, the club decided to give online English grammar classes to the students of UP and HS section to help them build their language competency. Students attended the classes with much interest and received positive response from parents.
A letter writing competition ‘A Letter to Chachaji’ was organized on 12th November 2021 for the students to bring out their knack of creativity and to develop their writing skills. Children enthusiastically and actively participated in the competition. The letters were carefully evaluated and the winners were awarded with prizes.
