The present Government Higher Secondary School, Thrikkavu, Ponnani is nearly 122 years old. It was started in 1893 as the Thrikkavu Girls High School for the benefit educationally backward women of those times.This is one of the oldest Schools of Malabar. Later on under the Malabar District Board it was elevated as a Higher Elementary School and then as Government Upper Primary School, Thrikkavu. In 1980, it was elevated to the status of a High School, thanks to the good efforts of the Parent Teacher Association and the School Welfare Committee. In 2004 it was upgraded as a Higher Secondary School.
