ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES AND SOLUTIONS

All physical surroundings present on our planet are called Environment. The environment is formed by whatever surroundings we live in. The environment includes both living and nonliving things. The part of the environment where we live in is known as the biosphere. All the living beings including plants, animals.etc are the parts of the biosphere. The nonliving environment has three parts atmosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere. The atmosphere is comprised of various gases such as oxygen, carbon and nitrogen. Our existence and survival depends entirely on our atmosphere. All oceans and other water bodies such as rivers, lakes and ponds make up the hydrosphere. The lithosphere denotes the outer layer of the earth. The interaction of humans on the environment causes environmental pollution. During the 18th century industrial revolution begins during this time so many factories sprang up coal and woods are used in factories as fuels it causes the large scale deforestation and leads to global warming. More and more carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere by factories increases the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by the factories the increased level of carbon dioxide and other harmful gases. These gases enhanced the greenhouse effect and warmed up our environment. This phenomenon is still happening to face disastrous consequences. The growth of the population has adversely affected the environment in various ways. The demand for resources increases with the growth in population. To meet this demand human beings never hesitate to exploit the environment. We cut trees to make way for tows and cities. Plants and trees are usually the first links in food chains. Felling trees disturbs the food chain and affect ecosystems. Population explosion is a threat to the environment. Air pollution affects the air in the atmosphere. The use of automobiles and fossil fuels run in machines that leads to air pollution. Statics say that fumes from traffic are responsible for the releasing over 225,000 tonnes of lead into the atmosphere every year. Lead is harmful to humans and animals.

Water pollution affects the aquatic life. Harmful factory wastes dumped into the water bodies pollute water and kill the first level organism in the food chain, thereby putting the lives of other animals in peril. Land pollution, on the other hand, affects the land, destroying soil and environment.there is also noise pollution, which can affect our hearing. Pollution is the most dreadful environmental problem that our planet facing today. Garbage in the oceans is a serious issue as fish and other marine organisms entangle themselves in fishing nets. Many sea animals eat trash products and die.

The process of the earth’s warming up and rise in temperature is known as global warming. This happens when there is an increase in the production of gases like carbon dioxide, methane, water vapour and nitrous oxide these greenhouse gases trap heat and light from the sun in earth’s atmosphere. This trapped heat increases the temperature and cause global warming. Antarctica appears to be getting warmer. Even a change of temperature half a degree Celsius in temperature can have disastrous effects. Over the last 50years, average temperatures on the continent have increased by 2.5degree celsius. In 1995 a gigantic glacier and floated out to sea. This incident was a revelation to the scientists across the globe. Those incidents are indicators of global warming

A major natural cause for global warming is the release of methane gas from the Arctic tundra and wetlands. These gases can trap heat in the atmosphere. Another important natural cause is Earth’s normal inclination for auto-generated climate change. The Earth goes through a cycle of climate change which usually lasts about 40,000years

.

Nowadays there are worldwide organisations to protect the environment such as WWF(World Wide Fund for Nature ), UNEP(United Nations Environment Programme), WMO(World MeteorologicalOrganisation), IPCC(Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change), IUCN(International Union For Conservation of Nature), GEF(Global Environment Facility), AOSIS(Alliance of Small Island States), GAW (Global Atmosphere Watch) solutions for environmental issues

• Plant more trees

• Don't dump or throw wastes into water bodies

• Protect forest and other ecosystems

• To retain equilibrium

• Use electric or CNG vehicles instead of petrol and diesel vehicles

• Protect environment
