PREVENTION OF DISEASES

Infectious diseases may be an avoidable fact of life, but there are many ways to help us prevent ourselves from infection and to treat disease once it is discovered. Some are taken by individuals; others are national or global methods of detection, prevention and treatments. With the advent of the modern pharmaceutical industry bio chemical approaches to the preventing and treating disease have helped us very much.
A vaccine is a biological preparation that improves immunity to a particular disease. Vaccine introduces weakened antigens into a person in such a way that the individual doesn’t become sick but still produces antibodies. The body saves these antibodies and it is protected from the antigen that reappear later in life.
Antibiotics are powerful medicines that fight bacterial infections. But antibiotics don’t work against viral infections, so in those cases antiviral drugs which fight infection by inhibiting a virus’s ability to reproduce are introduced. Daily habits provide some of the strongest defence against infectious diseases such as
1.Keep immunization up to date
2.Wash your hands often.
3.Prepare and handle food carefully
4.Avoid insect bites as much as possible.
5.Be careful around all wild animals and unfamiliar domestic animals.
6.Clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces.
7.Stay home when sick
Global surveillance is a critical component to responding to infectious diseases worldwide. Technological advances in disease surveillance and detection have strengthened infectious disease’s control and prevention efforts. Poor nations lack disease surveillance programmes and up-to-date laboratories. So, worldwide organisations have made donations for medications to these countries for the containment of outbreaks.
Keeping our nation safe from disease outbreaks depends on effective and well co-ordinated programmes that monitor public health. It is not only the duty of governments but it is the responsibility of each citizen to defend diseases by observing personal hygiene and cooperation with the authorities in the programmes for containment of diseases.
