ഒരു ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ രാമനാഥൻ എന്നൊരാളുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.അയാൾക്ക് ഭാര്യയും ഒരു മകനും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.രാമനാഥനും കുടുംബവും ആ വീട്ടിൽ സന്തോഷത്തോടെ ജീവിച്ചു വന്നിരുന്നു.രാമനാഥന്ടെ വീട്ടിനു മുന്നിൽ ഒരു പേരമരമുണ്ടായുന്നു.ആ മരം രാമനാഥന്ടെ കുട്ടിക്കാലത്തെ ഒരുപാടു ഓർമ്മകൾ അയാൾക്ക് നൽകിയിരുന്നു. കുട്ടിക്കാലത്തു അതിന്ടെ ചുവട്ടിൽ നിന്നാണ് രാമനാഥൻ കളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നത്.ഇപ്പോൾ ആ മരം പക്ഷികളുടെയും പ്രാണികളുടെയും അണ്ണന്റെയുമൊക്കെ വാസസ്ഥലമാണ്.മാത്രമല്ല അതിന് വളരെ വയസ്സായിരുന്നതിനാൽ അതിൽ പേരക്കകളൊന്നും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.അതുകൊണ്ട് രാമനാഥൻ അത് മുറിച്ചു കളയാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചു.അപ്പോൾ അയാളുടെ മകൻ രാജു പറഞ്ഞു: "അച്ഛാ ആ മരം മുറിച്ചു കളയരുത് അത് അച്ഛന്റെ കുട്ടിക്കാലത്തിന്റെ ഓർമ്മയാണ് " പക്ഷെ അച്ഛനത് ഗൗനിച്ചില്ല അച്ഛൻ പറഞ്ഞു അത് മുറിച്ചു നമുക്ക് വേറൊരു തൈ അവിടെ നടാം .രാജുവിന്റെ അച്ഛൻ അത് മുറിക്കാൻ വേണ്ടി കോടാലി എടുത്തു പുറത്തേക്കു നടന്നു.പുറത്തെത്തിയപ്പോൾ ആ മരത്തിൽ താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന ജീവികൾ വിഷമത്തോടെ കരഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് അവിടം വിട്ടു പോകാനൊരുങ്ങി.അച്ഛൻ മകനോടും ഭാര്യയോടും പറയുന്നത് അവർ ജനലിലൂടെ കേൾക്കുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.രാമനാഥന് ആ ജീവികളോട് ദയ തോന്നി.അയാൾ പറഞ്ഞു നിങ്ങളാരും ഇവിടം വിട്ടു പോകരുത്, ഞാൻ ഈ മരം മുറിക്കുന്നില്ല.ഏല്ലാ ജീവികളും അയാളുടെ ചുറ്റും നിന്നു സന്തോഷത്തോടെ നന്ദി പറഞ്ഞു.രാജു ചോദിച്ചു "അച്ഛാ നമുക്കൊരു മാവിൻ തൈ കൂടി ഇവിടെ നട്ടാലോ".അച്ഛൻ ശരി എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു ഒരു മാവിൻ തൈ കുറച്ചകലെ നട്ടു.വർഷങ്ങള്ക്കു ശേഷം ആ മാവിൽ മാങ്ങകൾ നിറഞ്ഞു എല്ലാ ജീവികളും രാമനാഥനും കുടുംബവും ആ മാവിലെ മാങ്ങകൾ തിന്നു സന്തോഷത്തോടെ ജീവിച്ചു<br />
