OZONE HEALED Ozone is a gas in the atmosphere that protects everything living on the earth from harmful ultraviolet rays the sun. Without the layer of ozone in the atmosphere, it would be very difficult for anything to survive on the surface. The ozone layer is mainly found in the lower portion of the stratosphere, from approximately 15 to 35 kilometers above the earth, although its thickness varies seasonally and geographically. In 1913, the French physicists Charles Fabry and Henri Buisson discovered the ozone layer. The ozone layer absorbs 97to99 percent of ultraviolet rays from sun. Otherwise it would be damage the lifes of all living things. In 1976 atmospheric research revealed that the ozone layer was being depleted by chemicals released by industry, mainly chlorofluorocarbons (CFC)and Halons gases formerly found in aerosol spray cans and refrigerants. CFCs and Halons cause chemical reactions that breakdown ozone molecules, reducing ozones ultraviolet radiation absorbing capacity. This causes skin cancer, eye cataracts and immune deficiency disorders in human beings and also it effect plant growth, reducing agricultural productivity. The United Nations generaly assembly has designated September 16 as the International day for the preservation of ozone layer. The latest report about the ozone layer is that one million square kilometer wide hole in the ozone layer has healed.
