PAPA PANOF’S CHRISTMAS       It was a Christmas Eve. Every people in the city were in their homes. The church bells were ringing and carols were sung by the church choir. In the city, their lived an old cobbler with the name Papa Panof. He was very kind and generous towards the people of the city. As it was Christmas Eve, he decided to close his shop. He went home as he was very tired. Everyone was happy in the city because tomorrow was Christmas. Papa Panof thought of his wife and daughter. About the Christmas days he had spent with them. Those days were lovely. Papa Panof though. But they were dead now. Even through he did not have the habit of reading, he took the Bible and read about the birth of Jesus Christ. After reading that, he felt asleep. As he was sleeping, he dreamed that someone had come into his room . Alas ! It was Jesus Christ. Jesus said to Papa Panof , Tomorrow, I will come to see you. I will be disguising suddenly woke up from his sleep. He Thought of the dream. In which way would Jesus come? In the disguise of a child or a king? After some time, he made some coffee and waited. The bells in the church were ringing. Carols were sung. He went out of the door and looked around. He saw a sweeper. He was working very hard even if there was heavy snow on the road. Papa Panof invited the sweeper into his home. As the house was very warm, it was really a treat for the old sweeper. Papa Panof offered some hot coffee to the tired man. After a moment or so the sweeper bid farewell and went away. As it was afternoon. Papa Panof made some cabbage soup. He began to eat. As he looked outside through the window, he saw a woman hurrying towards his home. She was carrying something. It was a baby. By the look of them, he can understand that they were very hungry and tired. He invited that woman to his home. She got into the house Papa Panof gave some cabbage soup to the woman and made hot milk for the baby. The woman was very thankful to the old man. After a moment or so, she also went away. Now Papa Panof had a doubt. Jesus had gone already. Suddenly a voice said to him. It was Jesus. ‘Haven’t you seen me Papa Panof? I have visited you through those people you have served. When I was hungry, you gave me food. When I was thirsty we gave me water and when I was shivering from cold, you gave me warmth.’ After that there was silence. Papa Panof really did understood that Jesus had visited him. He fell very happy.
