HEALTH: THE REAL WEALTH

We all know the popular saying that, health is wealth. The literally meaning of the word health is the state of being free from illness or injury. Modern science defines health as a state of complete mental, physical and social well being; not merely the absence of illness or infirmity. Fitness is the ability to meet the demands of the surroundings. Regular exercise improves health and fitness. The father of our nation also had a similar opinion, `It is health which is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver’. A person with bad health cannot enjoy the pleasure of being wealthy. The factor responsible for good health include genetics, the environment, relationships and education.

For maintaining good health we should always be away from the bad habits like smoking, drinking, drug addiction, etc. We should always take balanced and nutritious diet. One should always keep the habit of cleanliness to keep healthy.

We acquire health and energy through the food we eat. Therefore for being healthy one should take quality and healthy food. In recent years obesity is one of the major issues for the youth even in developing nations. Those who have a balanced diet with all essential nutrients are healthier than one who ate food more than required, ie., quality of food is more important than quantity.

Good health is a boon. Today adulteration of food stuffs is engulfing the whole world. Adulteration of food causes many diseases which can even led to death. Diseases are increasing on a daily basis, the food we eat is a major factor which keeps us away from these diseases. Now, junk foods have been a part of our life. Burger, pizza, lays, chips , etc, became part and parcel of our daily life. There are different kinds of diseases; among them life style diseases are scrunching our nation. Food with higher content of fat, junk food, adulterated food, all paving way to reach the god much earlier.

In pristine days, common men had never heard of “cancer”. AIDS caused a virus has nabbed the life of millions of human being all around the world. The recent Covid 19 outbreak had engulfed many developed nations, surprisingly, due to many reasons our nation had achieved some notable achievements in controlling the virus. Our customs, food habits, social life, public health managements system- we should pay our homage to our ancestors.

HYGIENE

The famous Vasily Klyuchevsky opined that “Hygiene teaches how to be the watchdogs of their own health”. Good personal hygiene not only enhances your appearance, its importance is directly related to preventing infections, diseases, and keeps us away from unpleasant odours. Practising proper hygiene is important to your mental health and helps you feel better about yourself. Most people don’t think twice about bathing, visiting doctor or dentist for routine check-ups, handling unsanitary items, brushing their teeth, or washing their hands. They not only do these healthy habits for themselves, they do them to help keep those they care about healthy and safe.

Key concepts of personal hygiene

Personal hygiene includes different habits- washing hands and brushing teeth which keep bacteria, viruses and fungi far away from our bodies. Moreover these habits will help us to protect our mental health and activity. Also good personal hygiene will help us to keep feeling good about ourselves. Since those who don’t take care of their personal hygiene that dirty clothes, body odour and bad breath will suffer from discrimination and this will mainly leads to mental and health problems. But the most important point in this subject, is that all people has their own hygiene but some people do it better than others, this will mainly depend on each person’s culture, social and family norm.

Hygiene for most important parts of your body

Hair hygiene: Be clean, be stylish, from top to toe. Often, while considering personal hygiene, the hair is neglected. However, many a time the hair gets dirtier than the body. Wash your hair at least twice a week, with suitable shampoo and avoid using soap for your hair washing. Dry your hair after washing it. Use coconut oil even once in a week.

Skin hygiene: A person sweats throughout the day, especially in April and May. Soap and water are vital for keeping the skin clean. A good bath once or twice a day is unavoidable. Use an anti-bacterial soap and add drops of an antiseptic liquid to the water you bath with . Dry yourself well. Avoid sharing towels. Use a moisturiser to keep the skin supple and well –oiled.

Oral hygiene: Accumulation of food in the mouth can cause problem ranging from bad breath to dental caries. For removal of food particles and oral hygiene, certain step are to be followed. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, but preferably after each meal to clear your teeth of any remains of food. Use a brush with zigzag bristles, to reach every nook and corner of your teeth. Floss regularly, for inter-dental care. Use a tongue scraper to keep your tongue clean. Use a mouthwash whenever you go out. Drink a lot of water to keep the mouth moist and to remove any foul odours.

Hand hygiene: The commonest way we establish contact with things around us is by using our hands and that is why, one must take special care to keep them neat and clean. Wash your hands with soap after every meal. Wash thoroughly and in the gaps between your fingers. While handling food and cooking, avoid scratching or touching other parts of the body such as the eye, ears or the nose.

Feet hygiene: The most neglected part of the body are the feet. Ways to keep your feet clean are as follows. Soak your feet in warm water and wash with soap. Scrub the heel of your foot with a pumice stone to keep it soft and hygiene. Gave importance to the footwear you wear. Nail hygiene: Clean your nails thoroughly removing the dirt from them. Trim your nails often and preferably keep them short. Do not keep your nails polished perpetually it causes the keratin of the nails to split.

Hygiene during menstrual cycle: A woman’s period is the dreaded time of the month for her. Periods makes one feel uncomfortable. However, this is a natural process that cannot be avoided, likewise implementing some useful measures we can minimize it’s problems. Change your sanitary towels frequently to avoid a feeling of discomfort. It is essential to bath twice at this time. Properly dispose the sanitary napkins after use. During this time women have to eat properly and include mainly fruits and vegetables.The stomach pain and body pain are common during this period therefore women should take proper rest. Menstrual hygiene is very important, many of the women especially from remote villages women are lacking the proper awareness regarding the menstrual hygiene even at at this 21st century. Use high quality napkins, avoid the use clothes.

WASH YOUR HANDS AND FIGHT AGAINST CORORNA

Hand washing remains the No.1 tip for preventing corona virus (covid-19). Hand washing not only reduces corona, it can prevent many other contagious diseases. Proper hand washing with soap or any sanitizer is mandatory. Hands are the entry point for many kinds of germs and micro- organisms. Ensure that your hands are properly washed before you leaving and after reaching the home. Use masks while travelling. Use kerchief while coughing and sneezing. Break the chain of corona virus being entered into our body.

CONCLUSION The safety measures are to be followed not only at the time pandemics but should be a habit. . It is our best weapon against all these contagious diseases. Be healthy through hygienic practices is our moto. If you are healthy and hygienic you will be in the safer zone during all occasions.

Remember, when the whole world was under the scare of corona virus, we fight against it because of our great cultural specialities and scientific hygienic practices and health management systems. So this is a lesson for the whole world. Let us stand united and stay safe at home and let us fight against COVID-19 and similar pandemics.
