SURVIVAL OF KERALA AGAINST COVID-19 Kerala has done much better than other states in the fight against Corona Virus in dealing the handships caused by the measures to contain it. The concept of Kerala model is fighting COVID is gaining acceptance all over the world. The health department of Kerala are busy in exploring the newer avenues in the sphere of COVID prevention care. The challenge arising from more people testing positive for the disease. The caution exercised by Kerala in the first stage in isolating those who were suspected of the disease and subjecting them to tests and also making those who came from foriegn countries and other states undergo quarantine has started yielding results The number of people infected by the disease in kerala has come down considerably. This was achieved through a relatively high number of testing, effective scrutiny and surveillance, quick identification of suspected and infected cases, efficient isolation and quarantine measures and unfailing and daily follow ups, route maps of the patients were prepared and those people who come in contact with them were identified through it. Mobile applications and digital technologies were utilised for this purpose. All the measures taken by the Kerala Government is bringing the situation under control. The Police district administration and local self Government departments work in an excellent manner to implement social distancing completely. The public relation department gave strong support to the health workers. Kerala has the most number of people who recovered from COVID infection and returned to life. The oldest people among those who recovered from the disease in the world are most likely from Kerala. The State's main strength is that it have an efficient Chief Minister, Health Minister and an effective public health system. They also has the experience of fighting the Nipah Virus in 2018. The lockdown was enforced well. The Government created awareness in the community about the steps needed to contain the epidemic. The needs of people who were adversely affected by the lockdown were well attended too. Kerala has an efficient public distribution system and this was used to distribute essential commodities to all Families. Those who lost livelihood, like daily wage earners & immigrant workers were taken care of. Note that about 70% of the relief camps being run for immigrant workers in the country are in Kerala. The timely acts and focused intervention through a balanced mix of scientific and creative approach in fighting COVID, but whatever has been achieved till now is impressive and an example for other states to emulate.
