സെപ്റ്റംബർ 18-ന് സ്ക്കൂളിൽ സോഫ്റ്റ്​വെയർ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യ ദിനം സമുചിതമായി ആചരിച്ചു. ഇതോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് സോഫ്റ്റ്​വെയർ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് സെമിമാർ നടന്നു. ILUG പ്രവർത്തകനായ ശ്രീ. സമീർ മുഹമ്മദ് താഹിർ മുഖ്യ പ്രഭാഷകനായിരുന്നു. ശ്രീ. ജോർജ്, ശ്രീ. തോമസ് യോയാക്ക്, ശ്രീ. സനൽ കുമാർ എന്നിവർ സംസാരിച്ചു.

പാലാ സെന്റ് ജോസഫ്സ് എൻജിനിയറിംങ്ങ് കോളേജ് വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളുടെ സ്വതന്ത്ര സോഫ്റ്റ്​വെയർ യൂസർ ഗ്രൂപ്പായ "സ്വതന്ത്ര"യുടെ രൂപീകരണത്തോട് അനുബന്ധിച്ച് കോളേജ് ക്യാമ്പസ്സിൽ വച്ച് നടന്ന പരിപടിയിലേക്ക് പ്രത്യേകമായി ക്ഷണിക്കപ്പെട്ട ഇരുമ്പനം ഹൈസ്കൂൾ വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളുടെ യൂസർ ഗ്രൂപ്പായ സ്വതന്ത്ര സോഫ്റ്റ്​വെയർ കൂട്ടായ്മ (SSK) -യ്ക്ക് പ്രത്യേക അംഗീകാരവും പ്രശംസയും ലഭിച്ചു. ഫ്രീ സോഫ്റ്റ് വെയർ ഫൌണ്ടേഷന്റെ (FSF) സ്ഥാപകനും ലോക പ്രശസ്ത സ്വതന്ത്ര സോഫ്റ്റ്​വെയർ പ്രചാരകനും പ്രവാചകനുമായ റിച്ചാൾഡ് മാത്യു സ്റ്റാൾമാൻ ആയിരുന്നു ചടങ്ങിലെ മുഖ്യാഥിതി. ഇതോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് സ്വതന്ത്ര സോഫ്റ്റ്​വെയർ അധിഷ്ടിത എക്സിബിഷനും ഉണ്ടായിരിന്നു. ഇരുമ്പനം സ്കൂളിലെ ഐ.ടി കോർഡിനേറ്റർമാരായ തോമസ് യോയാക്കു്, സനൽ കുമാർ എന്നിവരുടെ നേതൃത്ത്വത്തിൽ വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളായ അഭിനവ് തോമസ്, മാത്യു കെ വൈദ്യൻ, സിദ്ധാർത്ത് കെ ഭട്ടതിരി, അഭിജിത്ത് പി കെ എന്നിവർ എക്സിബിഷനിലും സെമിനാറിലും പങ്കെടുത്തു. ടക്സ് പെയ്ന്റ് ലോക്കലൈസേഷൻ, ധ്വനി, ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് സിനിമകൾക്ക് സബ് റ്റൈറ്റിലിംങ്, വെബ്സൈറ്റ് പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തൽ എന്നിവ കുട്ടികൾ എക്സിബിഷൻ സ്റ്റാളിൽ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചു. ഇത് എല്ലാവരുടെയും പ്രത്യേക ശ്രദ്ധ പിടിച്ചുപറ്റി. ഏറ്റവും നല്ല സ്റ്റാളിനും അവതരണത്തിനുമുള്ള അവാർഡ് SSK കരസ്ഥമാക്കി. ഈ അവാർഡ് സ്റ്റാൾമാനിൽ നിന്നും സ്കൂൾ ടീം ഏറ്റുവാങ്ങി. കുട്ടികളുടെ പ്രകടന മേന്മയ്ക്കുള്ള അംഗീകാരമായി സ്റ്റാൾമാൻ തന്റെ കയ്യൊപ്പിട്ട ഫോട്ടോകൾ കുട്ടികൾക്ക് നൽകി. സ്റ്റാൾമാനോടൊപ്പം നിന്ന് ഫോട്ടോ എടുക്കാനുള്ള ഭാഗ്യവും ടീമിനു് ലഭിച്ചു.

SSK മീറ്റിങ്ങ്

SSK-യുടെയും IT കോർണറിന്റെയും രണ്ടാമത്തെ സംയുക്ത യോഗം മൾട്ടിമീഡിയ തിയറ്ററിൽവെച്ച് നടന്നു. 'SPACE' -ന്റെ സാരഥിയും പ്രമുഖ സ്വതന്ത്ര സോഫ്റ്റ്​വെയർ പ്രവർത്തകനും സ്കൂളിലെ പൂർവ്വ വിദ്യാർത്ഥിയുമായ വിമൽ ജോസഫ്, സ്വതന്ത്ര സോഫ്റ്റ്​വെയറിനെക്കറിച്ച് ആമുഖ പ്രഭാഷണം നടത്തി. തുടർന്ന് IT കോർഡിനേറ്ററായ തോമസ് യോയാക്ക്, ICT അധിഷ്ടിത പഠന സോഫ്റ്റ്​വെയറുകളായ K TECH LAB, CELESTIA, C-DIT ENGLISH MALAYALAM DICTIONARY, KANAGRAM, K-GEOGRAPHY തുടങ്ങിയവ പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തി.

Inaugration by Jay Jacob and Vimal Joseph. of SSK VHSS Irumpanam And the first user group of students ever in Kerala was jointly inaugurated by Jay Jacob , the founder member of ILUG Cochin and Vimal Joseph of SPACE (Society for Promotion of Alternative Computing & Education).

Jay Jacob : Free Software Free Society Jay Jacob said that the student community of VHSS Irimpanam has a bright future in every aspect.

Vimal Joseph : Future of Free Software through schools Vimal Joseph, a former student of the school, pointed that the python programming workshop was a bold attempt from the part of the school and ILUG Cochin.

Brief talk by Anandan: Anandan , the Reporter from The Hindu supporting Free Software Movement quoted John Milton and Edassery Govindan Nair ( the Malayalam poet ) And with the support of these quotations he emphasised the importance of “FREEDOM”. He explained the use of Free Software for Defence applications where our integrity of the nation or the information lays in hands of the companies who “own” the software, rather than with us.

Brief talk by Anil Sanalan: Anil Sanalan (fom Indian Express) also focused on the ‘ freedom ‘ aspect of free software.

Brief talk by IB Manoj I.B. Manoj an ILUG member expressed his visions on an upcoming student community and extended his full support to SSK. He also said that he is interested to conduct a one day workshop on Computer Hardware in the school.

Thomas Yoyaku , the Coordinator of SSK spoke on the objectives of SSK.

M.R.Sanal Kumar explained his visions and proposed structure of monthly meetings of SSK.
