The forgotten pal

At the outset , in the little box , all was dark ,
Then a small cleft , and did Maria 's hands go gently Stroke the soft fur and leave a fingermark ,
And made Mr . Bear take a look - his first ,faintly, "Just what I wanted , daddy!"she exclaimed , Her parents smiled at that rare phrase .
She picked him up ;down was he never laid , Both foresaw how it'd go on for many days . Yes , they were together , be it sadness or joy, Every day, each Christmas and Thanksgiving , And when Maria broke an elbow , oh boy !
Mr . Bear was there , crying and helping . She grew up and her circle of friends too ,
" Of course", she thought - "humans are indeed better!"
In no time , let 's mention , was she able to bid Mr.Bear adieu , With real - life parties , who chooses tea - parties , hah , as better ?

 With passing years , the organisation of people changed , Maria was not a child , yes , no more ;
But there were two quite hard to be managed , And they both looked like her when she was four . The old laughter and celebrations had vanished ,
Mr.Bear was now an old relic , who often saw Maria and sighed , And sitting under the cobwebs he wished ;
How to be cared again and be by her side !
A few more winters , summers , spring and fall, And looks like Mr . Bear is boring for you too ,
A dustier place in attic: made him struggle to stand tall , There he sat faded and lonely just as Maria's blue .
Sometimes she would walk up and down , Or vaguely stare at the evening sky , Read a book or two in the afternoon ,
And look at her walking stick and sigh .

Her world had become slow, quiet and disturbed yet By people who she was quite unsure whether to , Call her own or just someone she met ,
Although she allowed them to take her through , Perchance , by chance , one day in the attic , stepping in ,
She saw, no doubt in that ; a feeble smile
"Oh , how I missed you " , she said , "Mr . Bear , my kin!" And took him down without wasting a while.
That night in the house , two people walked past her, They saw an old lady with a teddy close to her bosom;
Whispering in the lowest voice - "Forgive me , Mr.Bear"; "Look , she has finally lost it, our mom!"
They said , with not the slightest concern even, To be used, to be wasted , and yet cluttered , But , hurray , alas , those words were received in heaven ,
For all we know; those were the ones she heard last uttered !

Poem Analysis : " The forgotten pal "

A simple one ; the poem is about the impermanence of earthly bonds and how the 'unexpected' still care . Maria as a child receives a teddy ( Mr.Bear ) as a present from her dad . They loved each other dearly . As she grew up , she started avoiding Mr . Bear and turned towards real human friends . After a few years , she becomes a mother with two kids who look like her in appearance but not gentle like her in character . When she is old and weak , she finally realises the fact that nothing is permanent in this world , and people come and go like the wind . ( One day, just before she dies , she walks into the attic of the house , by luck and finds her old teddy , Mr. Bear covered in dust.) In her deathbed , she tightly holds on to her dear teddy and cries how it took her a lifetime to understand the truth - everything is temporary .
