വാകേരി > ജില്ലാ മൃഗസംരക്ഷണവകുപ്പ്, വാകേരി സ്കൂൾ മൃഗക്ഷേമ ക്ളബ്, നാഷണൽ സർവീസ് സ്കീം എന്നിവയുമായി സഹകരിച്ച് വിവിധയിനം മുട്ടവിഭവങ്ങളുടെ പ്രദർശനവും പാചകമത്സരവും നടത്തി. കുട്ടനാടൻ താറാവ് മുട്ടക്കറി, കാടമുട്ട അച്ചാർ, മുട്ട മസാല, മുട്ട ഓംലറ്റ് കറി, മുട്ട ബജി എന്നിങ്ങനെ അഞ്ച് വിഭവങ്ങളെ ആസ്പദമാക്കി പാചകമത്സരം നടത്തി. വിദ്യാർഥികൾക്കായി പരിശീലനപരിപാടിയും സംഘടിപ്പിച്ചു.
പൂതാടി പഞ്ചായത്ത് പ്രസിഡന്റ് രുഗ്മിണി സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യൻ ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തു. 50 വിദ്യാർഥികൾ മത്സരത്തിൽ പങ്കെടുത്തു. ഡോ. കെ ആർ ഗീത മുഖ്യപ്രഭാഷണം നടത്തി. 'സ്കൂൾതല മൃഗക്ഷേമ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളും സംരംഭക പദ്ധതികളും' എന്ന വിഷയത്തിൽ ഡോ. വി ആർ താര, ഡോ. അനിൽ സക്കറിയ എന്നിവർ ക്ളാസെടുത്തു. എം കെ ബാലൻ അധ്യക്ഷനായി. ഡോ. കെ എസ് പ്രേമൻ, എം എസ് ബാബു, സി സി ജിഷു, സിന്ധുപ്രകാശൻ, ബിന്ദു ബിജു, കെ സുരേന്ദ്രൻ, കെ. കെ. ബിജു എന്നിവർ സംസാരിച്ചു. വി ജെ റോയ് സ്വാഗതവും ശ്രീജിത് വാകേരി നന്ദിയും പറഞ്ഞു

Students of Government Vocational Higher Secondary Schoolin Wayanad are writing their own success story in poultry farming.
The Livestock Management students of the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School (GVHSS) at Vakery in Wayanad district, set a model for the other schools to emulate by writing a successful chapter in poultry farming .
Project
When a Poultry club was launched in the school in January last year, they might not have thought that they could sell eggs in the open market under a brand name. But, the 50 second year VHSC students of the school have proved their calibre by selling organic eggs under the brand name ‘Gramapriya'.
“We are selling the ‘Gramapriya eggs' in the open market for raising funds for our junior students to continue the project,” said N.S. Athira, a Std XII student of the school. “Moreover, we have ensured the quality of our product after conducting various tests including Candling test at the production-cum-training centre of the school,” she added.
The novel project was launched under the “Poultry club at school” programme of the Animal Husbandry Department last year and as much as six “Kalinga Brown” species of chicks were provided to each child free of cost by the Department. “When we provided the chicks we suggested that the children contribute a minimum of 150 eggs a year per child to the school for raising funds to continue the project,” said V.J.Roy, Academic head of the VHSC section.
Demand and supply
A group consisting of nine children collects the eggs that the children bring from their house twice a week and they package it under the brand name “Gramapriya” after a quality check. The quality check is done by themselves with the help of Dr. Aron Jacob, a veterinary surgeon and a teacher of the school.
“We sell each egg at a price of Rs.3.50 and on the first day itself we sold 200 eggs in the market,” revealed K.G. Akhil, the group leader. “Though we have got a good response, we are not in a position to fulfil the demand of the market,” he added.
“The children received timely advice from the Animal Husbandry department officials. They were satisfied with our project when they visited the school recently and assured us that they would provide two poultry units, each consisting of 300 chicks, free of cost,” shared P.R.Chandramathi, principal of the school.
