HYGIENE
Hygiene is a science which deals with the promotion and preservation of health. The word "hygiene" was derived from the name of the Greek goddess of health, Hygeia. She was the daughter of Asclepius and the sister of Panacea. Hygeia was concerned with the preservation of good health and the prevention of diseases while, her father and sister treated the existing diseases. Hygiene is the maintenance of healthful practices. In modern terminology, this is usually regarded as a particular reference to cleanliness. Outward signs of good hygiene include the absence of visible dirt or of bad smells. Since tge development of germ theory of disease, hygiene has come to mean any practice leading to the absence of harmful levels of germs.Good hygiene is an aid to health, beauty and comfort. Good hygiene directly aids in disease prevention and/or disease isolation.Hygienic practices such as frequent hand washing or the use of boiled and thus sterilised water in medical operations have a profund impact on reducing the spread of diseases. This is because they kill or remove disease - causing microbes (germs) in the immediate surroundings. For instance, washing ones hands after using the toilet and before handing food reduces the chance of spreading E.coli bacteria and hepatitis A, both of which spread from fecal contamination of food. Some Hygienic practices : 4. General avoidance of bodily fluids are as follows : B. Suppression of habits such as spitting and nose picking. C. Washing hands before eating. D. Not licking fingers while counting currencies. We have to follow certain measures in order make sure that we don't catch any diseases during these difficult times. Prevention is better than cure.
