A COVID GIFT Damu and Divakaran were neighbours. They lived in a village. Damu was poor and unhealthy. Damu used to go for small works. Divakaran was rich. There stood a tamarind in Divakaran’s compound just near to Damu’s wall. “ The tamarind showers a lot of leaves in my yard and it is very difficult to me. Cut the tree.” Damu demanded. “No, I don’t want to cut the tree.”Divakaran disagreed. Both of them started to quarrel. It made them separated. Days passed. The pandemic corona spread all over the world. The Primeminister declared lock down in the country. Many people lost their jobs. Poor Damu ! He also lost his earnings. He depended rationshop and supplyco. But he couldn’t buy his medicines. There was no money with him. “Shall we ask money to Divakaran ?” Damu’s wife asked. “No, he didn’t like us.” Damu replied. Next day while Damu and his wife were talking about their problems someone knocked at the door. Damu’s wife opened the door. She was surprised. It was Divakaran with a packet. “Give it to Damu. These are medicines for him.” Divakaran said. “How did you know about our problems?” Damu asked. “I was just going by this way and somehow I heard your problems. Please take this. This is for you.” Divakaran replied. Damu and his wife looked each other. “Nowadays Covid-19 threatens us. It teaches us great lessons. We have to help each other. This is the time for help. Stay home.
