CORONA VIRUS
On 31 December 2019, WHO was informed of a cluster of cases of Pneumonia of unknown cause detected in Wuhan city, Hubei Province of China. The corona virus disease was identified as the causative virus by Chinese authority on 7th January.
Most people infected with the COVID- 19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without special treatment. Older people and those with underlying medical problems like Cardio vascular disease, Diabetics, Chronic respiratory disease and Cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the COVID- 19 virus, the disease it cause and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by washing your hands or using an alchohol based rub frequently and not touching your face.
The COVID- 19 virus spread primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes. So it is important that you also practice respiratory etiquette.
At this time, there are no specific vaccines or treatments for COVID- 19. However, there are many ongoing clinical trials evaluating potential treatments. WHO will continue to provide updated information as soon as clinical findings became available.
The Government is taking all steps to prevent spread of corona virus and the sale of interventions has been increased in alignment with evolving situation in India where many people have been brought under community surveillance and monitoring.
