CORONA VIRUS

Coronaviruses are a group of related viruses that cause diseases in mammals and birds. In humans, Coronaviruses cause respiratory tract infections that can range from mild to lethal. Mild illness include some cases of the common cold(which has other possible causes, predominantly rhinoviruses), while more lethal varieties can cause SARS, MERS and covid-19.Symptoms in other species vary:in chickens, they cause an upper respiratory tract diseases, while in cows and pigs they cause diarrhea. There are yet to be vaccines or antivirul drugs to prevent or threat human coronavirus infections.

                     CORONA HYGIENE
Basic hygiene measures may seem obvious, but they are important. Washing hands with plain soap and plain water kill viruses, but only if it's done thoroughly and often.Hands should be scrubbed for at least 20 seconds. The ensure germs won't be transferred to objects or spread from person to person

"Most people don't wash their hands very well ," said Biddinger. "As silly as it sounds to go watch a YouTube video on hand washing, people should do it to learn how to do it properly Washing hands has been clearly proved to decrease diseases transmission and lower your chance of getting infected.Hand sanitizer may be helpful, If they contain at least 60 percent alcohol, according to the centres for Disease control and prevention. But if your hands are dirty or greasy the sanitiezer won't work, which is why the agency favors hand washing.A 2006 study found that hand washing can cut the risk of respiratory infections by16 percent and a 2008 study showed a 21 percent reduction. Experts acknowledge the hardest of the self-protective measures to follow is not touching one's face. A 2015 study that observed medical students at the University of New South Wales found that each of them touched their face 23 times per hour on average It's important to avoid face touching because germs can get into the body through the eyes, nose, and mouth Contaminated hands can transfer the virus when people rub their eyes, scratch their noses, or touch their mouths."We all reflexively touch our face, "said biddinger"But trying to be more mindful of touching our face decrasesour chance of infection. "

                                  CORONA HEALTH
WHO Country Office for India has been working closely with MoHFW on preparedness and response measures for COVID-19,including surveillance and contact tracing, laboratory diagnosis, risk communications and community engagement, hospitalpreparedness, infection prevention and control, and implementation of containment plan.

In a video-conference held on 15 April 2020,MoHFW and WHO deliberated on further strengthening the partner ship and additional measures that can be taken to step up the response to COVID-19 in the country. In his address,Dr Harsh Varsham, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare said,"WHO is an important partner in our fight against the COVID-19.l really value guidance and contributions made by the WHO in containing spread of COVID-19 across the country. "

"India is at a crucial juncture in its fight against CIVID-19.The country has responded with urgency and determination as reflected the prime minister's bold and decisive leadership. The government has also aggressively stepped up the response measures-find, isolate, test, treat and trace. WHO is supporting the government's endeavour to further strengthening and intensify surveillance and build capacity of the health system. WHO stands together in solidarity with the government in its firm resolve to overcome this unprecedented challenge,"says Dr Benkedam, WHO representative to India

               CORONA ENVIRONMENT
Air Pollution: one of the main impact of coronavirus outbreak,is a significant drop in the Air pollution which has been noted in many parts of the world.A drop in air pollution was first observed by NASA in China's Hubei province, where the Coronaviruses outbreak began in December 2019,Marshall Burke, a researcher at Stanford University, calculated the improvements in air quality recorded in China may have saved the lives of 4,000 children under 5 years old and73,000 adults over70.Many countries around the world have implemented lock down and quarantine to slow down the spread of the virus and due to this flights have cancelled. now there are lot less planes
In the sky and no vehicles on the streets meaning a lot less air pollution and green house gases being emitted and air quality has improved significiantly and the earth's ozone layer is also recovering

CORONA RESISTANCE

During previous outbreaks due to other Coronaviruses (Middle -East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome(SARS),humam-to-human transmission occurred through droplets, contact and fomites, suggesting that the transmission mode of the COVID-19 can be similar. The basic principles to reduce the general risk of transmission of acute respiratory infections include the following
*Avoiding close contact with people suffering from acute respiratory infections
  • Frequent hand-washing,especially after direct contact with I'll people or their environment.
  • Avoiding unprotected contact with farm or wild animals
  • People with symptoms of acute respiratory infection should practice cough etiquetti(maintain distance, cover coughs and sneezes with disposal tissues or clothing, and wash hands
  • Within health care facilities, enhance standard infection prevention and control practices in hospitals, especially in emergency departments.

WHO does not recommend any specific health measures for travellers. In case of symptoms suggestive of respiratory illness either during or after travel, travellers are encouraged to seek medical attention and share their travel history with their health care provider
