The Broken Pegasus      Sanjay’s uncle always brings wonderful gifts for him. This time it was a great surprise for Sanjay of his uncle’s arrival after the business tour. As usual, he gave a gift to Sanjay. But this time it was a very special gift. When Sanjay opened the box decorated with pearls and jewels, he couldn’t believe his eyes. It was a Pegasus with its hind legs fixed on the base and hooves high in the air; it stood in a noble manner. It was a great desire of his lovely Lakshmi Ma’am. She was their English teacher and their most favorite teacher in that school. Lakshmi Ma’am’s explanation about the Pegasus heard like a music in his ears. ‘Pegasus is a pure white mythical creature with large wings. Pegasus symbolizes wisdom and fame. Once,on her birthday her father who was a poet and a singer had gifted her a beautiful Pegasus crystal. But when her mother was cleaning the shelf, the crystal fall down and broke into pieces’. “Tomorrow, it’s ma’am’s birthday.” He thought. For the past few days he and his friends, Surya, Antony and Gaurav were thinking about what to give as a birthday present to their beloved ma’am. Now he is very happy with that Pegasus crystal. He couldn’t even sleep at night thinking about that precious gift. Sanjay woke up with great excitement and rushed to school. He wanted to convey that great message to his friends but unfortunately, things were quite different. The ground was empty. He rushed to his class like a Pegasus. Nobody was there in the class. But the bags were there on the seats. He thought, “Today there is no assembly. Where did everybody go?.” His heart became like a balloon which would burst at any time. He ran to the assembly hall. In the middle of the way he saw them coming back. They were coming in a line with absolute silence. Some of them were talking in a very low voice. At the back, his friends Gaurav, Antony and Surya were coming with their hands tightly held together. Sanjay ran to Gaurav and asked,” Gaurav, what happened?.” Gaurav was silent. Sanjay saw tears in Gaurav’s eyes. Sanjay asked Surya, “what happened Surya? Why is nobody saying anything?.” He held Surya’s shoulders tightly and said,” I have a great news to tell.” “Sorry Sanjay, I am not in a situation to hear anything.” said Surya. For a second he looked at sanjay and went. Sanjay opened his bag and took out the Pegasus. He showed it to Antony and said, “see Antony, it’s a gift for our Lakshmi ma’am…………ma’am’s great desire.” Antony replied with a shivering voice, “ no need to give Sanjay. Ma’am will never come back to receive her Pegasus.
