Punnad is a village in Kannur district in the state of Kerala, India.

Location

Punnad is near Iritty and it is within Keezhur Chavassery panchayat. Punnad is situated beside the Tellicherry-Coorg road, ഫലകം:Convert from Tellicherry, and ഫലകം:Convert from Kannur.

Economy

There is branch of State Bank of Travancore in Punnad. Several traditional art forms are still practiced in the village, including those only found in the North Malabar area, such as theyyam, kalampaattu and ((Kolkkali)).

Communal clashes

There has been some communal violence over the few past years, including political clashes and murders, People are expectig calm and peaceful life.

Keezhur Chavassery Panchayath office and the village office also situated in punnad. We can sea Muslim Juma Masjid near by punnad bus station and other two small Masjid, one in Meethele Punnad and one in Keezhur kunnu.

There is no any Primary Health Centere, it is 4 km away from PUNNAD -in Iritty or Mattnur. SBT, Cooperative Bank and Vanitha Banks are doing the financial works for the villagers. One of The famous man in Punnad was UppiSahib. Majority peoples are Hindus and Muslims living in harmony.

He lighted the lamp of eductation in this village and his mission was continued by his sons (late) Raman Master and (late) sreedharan master. still it continues. The villagers respectly remembering (late)k.Achuthan Master(HM,Punnad.L.P.School), Kesavan Master (manager, punnad l.p.s), Balan master (HM, MPUPS), M.R. Raghavan (Peon, MPUPS), K.R. Karunakaran, Kelumaster, T Aswinikumar etc.

Transportation

The national highway passes through Kannur town. Mangalore and Mumbai can be accessed on the northern side and Cochin and Thiruvananthapuram can be accessed on the southern side. The road to the east of Iritty connects to Mysore and Bangalore. The nearest railway station is Kannur on Mangalore-Palakkad line.
